Bárbara Hernández Huerta of Chile set a record for performing the longest polar ice swim by a female swimmer in Chile Bay, aka Discovery Bay (latitude 62.29° S), off Greenwich Island, South Shetland Islands, Antarctica. She swam a distance of 2.5 kilometres (1.55 miles) in 45 minutes 30 seconds in the water with average temperature 2.23°C (32.4°F), as confirmed on June 9, 2023.
