The University of Santo Tomas (UST) in the Philippines, set a record for being the oldest existing university in Asia. It was founded in 1611. Originally established to become a seminary college, it also offered academic degrees in arts, theology, and philosophy in 1624. Today, it is also one of the largest Catholic universities in the world in student population on one campus, as confirmed on May 19, 2023.
